Request for Application for CACFP Mini Grants

2016 CACFP Mini-Grant Awardees Have Been Announced: Learn More
T&L Foundation for Child Care Information is accepting proposals for our first round of mini-grants.   If you are a licensed family child care provider participating on the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) or CACFP Sponsor and have a small project regarding health and wellness that you would like funded, look below to see our objectives, eligibility guidelines and retrieve the application.

Application closes on April 13, 2016.
​Awardees will be announced in June.

Our Objectives

All funds given by T&L Foundation for Child Care Information Mini-Grant Program must be used to create a healthier environment for children in child care.  You may request funding for projects that target one or more of the following objectives. The request should clearly specify which objectives your project addresses.
  • Overall quality of health and wellness in child care settings
  • Enhancing nutrition and healthy eating habits in child care settings
  • Enhancing physical activity in child care settings
  • Engaging parents in education of health and wellness via child care provider relationships

CACFP Sponsors
Licensed CACFP Family Child Care Providers

Who is Not Eligible?

For this round of Mini-Grants we are focusing on licensed family child care providers participating on the food program and CACFP Sponsors. Eligibility is limited to only these groups.

Responsibilities of Grantees

If You Receive the Mini-Grant You Must:
  • Comply with Terms of Agreement
  • Keep careful records to document authorized expenses
  • Keep copies of receipts for each item purchased
  • Submit a final expense report in a timely manner

Limits 

  1. Licensed Family Child Care Providers participating on the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) (also known as the "food program") may request up to $250.
  2. CACFP Sponsors may request up to $500.
*Please note there is a possibility of partial funding for your request.

Eligible Activities

  • One-Time Events (training providers, staff or parents)
  • Projects that improve the health and wellness of children in child care
  • One-time purchase of materials or equipment that enhance the child care program. This material(s) must fit into one of the objectives listed above.
  • Technical Assistance (to help you implement best practices)

Tell Us About Your Success

You will be required to provide us with an evaluation dependent upon on the project proposed.   This could include a short narrative of how and why the funds provided helped your program as well as pictures.

Priorities

Special Consideration will be given to projects which focus on the following areas:
  • Executing and Implementing Best Practices after taking the CHOICE Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ)
  • Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care Settings
  • Enhancing outside play areas to encourage physical activity
  • CACFP Sponsors - Provider education above and beyond the meal pattern requirements
